Meet Miss Daisy:
Miss Daisy was found by the Michigan Humane Society. She was found in a home in Detroit, Michigan, and it was estimated by people who knew of her, that she had been in her enclosed dog crate, in a closet, for at least 5 years.
Miss Daisy was fed through the bars in her crate, and she spent years sitting in her own waste. She destroyed all of her feathers by plucking them out until they can no longer ever grow back. Her wings did not open, and the feathers were rotted right to the quill. She needed surgery to removed a one inch cyst on her face.
It took months before we could even touch her.
Four years later, Miss Daisy can not only open her wings, but she can flap them too. She can actually get a bit of lift. It has been an honor to have been able to help her through her fears. She is a strong, confident girl, now. We still do her exercises every day. One, two...one two...one, opens her wings, and two, she brings them back to her side.
She was and is, the inspiration that drives the sanctuary.
